Bizz
Once when I was out in my Balcony and saw this strange
looking plant which had no branches or leaves, I had several questions in my
mind but I was rather to young back then so didn’t pay much attention to solve them. But now as I’m old
enough, with the same questions (some extra while reading through theory) and still
with the same plant, setting my question before you J. Did you
ever wonder why is snake plant called a snake plant or as to why does the size
of the plant vary as compared to when in a pot and when planted on ground? Or
why is this plant a little bit expensive and for all why is it called a air
purifier.
Buzz
The snake plant is a native of African continent from
Nigeria. Its leaves can grow as tall as of height 2m and 6 inch in width. But
this greately depends on the species and the location at which one grows the
plant. If you grow the plant in a small pot it tends to show smaller leaves
then the plant that is grown on ground, for a reason this is due to confined
area for the spreading of the roots, the lesser the space the plant could
become root bound thus slowing the growth or stuntening the growth of the
plant.
Coming to the cost aspect of the plant, again the cost varies
as per the species of the Dracaena. The plant has a good regeneration capacity
and can be propagted through cuttings but on the other hand shows very slow
growth and takes time to root. In winters the plant growth slows down more as
compared to the other season.
To the main why is this plant called an air purifier……
Wait!!!!!!!!!! What is the role of an air purifier????? The main function of an
air purifier is to purify the air from the possible dust particles and from
harmful toxins, Similarly Dracaena
trifasciata has the ability to filter the air from harmful toxins such as
formaldehyde, xylene and nitrogen oxides. It is one of the plants that absorbs
carbon dioxide at night and releases oxygen.
